As part of Citi’s commitment to building the capacity of partner organizations serving our local communities, the Citi Foundation and Citi Community Development is proud to support a series of community economic development trainings focused on economic and community development finance conducted by the National Development Council (NDC). Through a contribution from the Citi Foundation, the cost of the tuition for this course will be provided at no cost to staff from non-profit 501c(3) organizations, including CDCs and CDFIs.

NOTE: Citi has changed the September training from Ec Devo 201 to Ec Devo 101 and moved the Ec Devo 201 to November. These trainings are free.

Participants in ED 101, the first course in NDC’s nationally-recognized Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP) Certification Program, gain a solid understanding of both the basic tools and newest techniques used by successful economic development finance practitioners to assist small businesses and create jobs. The course explores economic development activities as part of a community’s overall economic development finance strategy and investigates the financing resources available for job creation projects. Participants analyze and structure economic development projects for small and medium-sized businesses as well as commercial real estate developments utilizing incentive financing packages. Specific topics include:

Description: In ED201, the second course in the EDFP Certification Program™, participants build on the financial analysis and deal structuring techniques learned in ED101 through investigation of advanced methods used to analyze the creditworthiness of operating small businesses. The credit analysis and underwriting procedures of commercial lenders are tailored to the unique concerns of economic development lenders. Specific topics include:

  • Credit Analysis Process
  • Permanent Working Capital Analysis
  • Cash Flow Analysis
  • Projections and Deal Structuring

This training scholarship is only available to staff of non-profit organizations or local government agencies with a mission to serve low to moderate income individuals and communities, and is not available to for-profit organizations or consultants. This course has a prerequisite of ED 101 which must be completed prior to starting ED 201.
