Causes Count: The Economic Power of Nonprofits
Last Friday, Claudia and I attended the CalNonprofits conference where they released CAUSES COUNT, a report that outlines the economic impact of California’s nonprofits. The findings show that nonprofits rank as the 4th largest private employer in California, contribute 15% of the state GDP, and equal a 1.5 million voting block. Click on the photo to watch a video that gives more details.
The conference emphasized the power in numbers. The message about standing together, working together, and forming coalitions was prevalent through out the day. We felt that this was super relevant to the work we’re going to be doing in Sacramento this coming year on women’s business ownership. One of the speakers talked about that how the game (political/fundraising/pick your game) is rigged to divide us. And as long as we’re anemic, we won’t be able to make the impacts we desire. But if we stand together and join with others, we will be able to affect change.
In the coming months, CAMEO will expand upon the work we’ve done in Sacramento over the last few years, building coalitions so that we can achieve our goals. Plan to engage!

Building a Do-It-Yourself Economy
The nature of our economy is changing and that means our economic development toolkit needs an update. Register for this webinar on August 13, 2014 at 1:00pm PT about the DIY economy, co-hosted with our colleagues at CALED.

Check out this new online guide of small business health plan options and costs through SHOP.
