Vice President Kamala Harris unveiled details of her small business policy plan during a speech yesterday in New Hampshire. The plan includes:

  • Calling for a goal of 25 million new small-business applications during her first term
  • Significantly expanding the tax deduction for start-up expenses
  • Proposing standard deductions for small businesses to file taxes
  • Pledging to expand contract opportunities for rural and other underserved small businesses
  • Launching a small business expansion fund
  • Reducing barriers for occupational licenses
  • Reduce burdensome small business regulations

Both as a senator and as vice president, Harris led efforts to invest billions in CDFIs. CAMEO Network is hopeful that these commitments will continue in the next administration.

Two CAMEO-sponsored Bills Reach the Governor’s Desk

Two of CAMEO Network’s sponsored bills made it out of the California Legislature last week and now await the Governor’s signature:

  • SB 1286 (Min) protects small business borrowers from harassment in debt collection.
  • SB 1103 (Menjivar) expands translation requirements, limits security deposits, and increases notice periods for contract termination in commercial leases.

After a series of amendments, SB 1482 (Glazer) was pulled by the author. But rest assured, our fight to end predatory small business lending is not over!
