Today, the Department of Business Oversight (DBO) released its second round of proposed regulations to address how to enact SB 1235, the truth-in-lending legislation that passed thanks to our sector’s advocacy.
Fortunately, DBO accepted many of the Responsible Business Lending Coalition’s recommendations, including disclosing APR or estimated APR for all small business financing products. But more can still be done to further strengthen the proposed rules to protect small businesses in California.
Please sign the RBLC’s letter to DBO to endorse the RBLC’s recommendations.
How Friendly Is California to Small Business?
Every year, professional services website Thumbtack conducts a survey of small business owners to get their perceptions of each state’s “small business friendliness” with regards to local policies and attitudes.
Last year, California scored a D grade; and this year we didn’t fare much better, scoring a D+. The good news is that improvements were made on Training/Networking Programs and Government Websites, going from a D and an F to a C and a B-, respectively. But there’s still much work to be done on other fronts, especially Regulations, Tax Code, and Licensing.
25 Reasons to Value CAMEO
As we reflect on our 25 years of work in the sector, every week we are highlighting one of the 25 reasons (or more!) to value CAMEO.
Reason #23: CAMEO’s many benefits for members include individualized support that ranges from microlending training to technical assistance and more.
