Big Policy Win for Small Business Lending

Last year, we worked with consumer groups to support the creation of California’s Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI, even without explicit small business protections. We’ve been meeting all year long to urge the DFPI to include small businesses in their protection actions. To our pleasant surprise, the DFPI recently issued a call for comments about defining UDAAP (unfair, deceptive, and abusive practices) for small business owners.

Today as part of the Responsible Business Lending Coalition (RBLC) and with our consumer-focused colleagues, we are submitting a comment letter to the DFPI. This is a HUGE win for us and attests to the strength of coalition building.

Thanks to the over 65 organizations that have signed onto the letter! If you’re interested in a copy of the comment letter, the final letter will be posted on the RBLC website next week.
