Support Advocacy. Renew Your Membership; Defining LMI. And Remember Aubry Stone

In this Must Know…

Support Advocacy. Renew Your Membership.

We know you value the advocacy work that we do. This year, we had quite a few successes.

Securing a $23 million state investment in small business development and passing the first Truth-In-Lending bill for small businesses in the country are two examples of our work to advance the cause of micro-entrepreneurship.

CAMEO also supported SB946, the statewide effort to decriminalize street vending. This week the Los Angeles City Council issued the regulations to make street vending legal in LA, following a decade of advocacy from many organizations, including CAMEO member LURN.

Such achievements would not be possible without your contributions. Keep the wheels of advocacy turning by renewing your membership or joining us and making an additional advocacy donation.

Definition of LMI – CRA or HUD?

Go past the alphabet soup and fill out this quick three question survey by December 19, 2018. It will take you less than 2 minutes to fill it out.

Are you using the CRA definition or HUD definition or something else to talk about your clients? Our friends at Opportunity Fund would like to understand which definitions their peers are using to report on their lending to low- and moderate-income (LMI) clients.  They are focusing on the income of the business owner, not on the income of employees nor on the income of the census tract.

Remember Aubry L. Stone

Aubry L. Stone, a giant in the small business community and President and CEO of the California Black Chamber of Commerce died peacefully in his sleep last week.  Mr. Stone was committed to public service and economic development in the Black community. He was a good friend of CAMEO and will be missed. Our thoughts go out to his family. The funeral will be at the Calvary Christian Center on December 8, 2018.
