What You Need to Know About Changes to Health Insurance

Health insurance rules are changing, and Covered California for Small Business has some news to share that can help you navigate this new environment.

Covered California for Small Business offers health plans that put you in control of your company’s health insurance budget.

You set the budget you can afford, and your employees select their own health plan that meets their needs. Having health insurance as part of your benefit package could strengthen your business by retaining and attracting employees who can make your business successful.

What’s changed for 2016?

Your business might need to change the health coverage you offer to your employees. Learn more about the Affordable Care Act Employer Mandate, and other changes in 2016.

  • If your firm has 50 or more full-time equivalent (FTE) employees, you’ll need to offer health insurance to at least 95% of that workforce by the end of 2016.
  • If your firm has less than 50 FTE employees, you’re not required to offer health coverage. However, if you choose to offer coverage, it must comply with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirements.

How many FTE employees do you have?

Calculating the number of FTE employees can be a challenge. We can help make it easier. Learn more about calculating your FTE employees.
